Listening to the Body: From Butō, Physical Acting to Mask

We will work with being comfortable with our body through listening to subtle cues in quiet mind (butō), identification with elements (physical acting) and to serve masks in movement at the end of the session.

Required Materials

Please be sure to assemble this list of materials in advance of the scheduled workshop session:

  • Performance masks for the mask portion of class will be provided, but if participants have masks they want to use, that’s wonderful as well.

Masanari Kawahara 川原正也 (he/him) is a butō doer, theatre artist, puppeteer, and arts educator. Currently he is at Pillsbury House + Theatre as Resident Teaching Artist and Director of Naked Stages program. Learn more at welovemasa.com.
